MORE INFORMATION ABOUT OUR PATIENT PARTICIPATION GROUP (PPG)
From 2015, every GP practice had a new contract with the NHS which requires it to have a Patient Participation Group (PPG).
What does it do?
A Patient Participation Group (PPG) is a group of people who are patients of Fressingfield and Stradbroke surgeries and want to help it work as well as it can for patients, GPs and staff.
This Practice Group believes that experiences matter. Representative patients on the PPG can bring different ideas to the surgeries that could help them treat their patients in a better way and improve how they operate.
Members of the PPG will gain a better understanding of the NHS, and can gather feedback from other patients on any aspect of how the surgeries operate within the guidelines and rules of the NHS.
The Fressingfield and Stradbroke PPG comprises nine patients, The Practice Manager and the three GP Partners. This group meets on a face-to-face basis (except in exceptional times, such as during the Covid pandemic, when virtual on-line meetings are held) four times a year and at which Minutes are taken.
Possibly one of the more visual ways in which you may have seen the PPG members “in action” is at the annual ‘Flu and Covid vaccination clinics, where they help with parking directions and give procedural advice as part of the vaccination clinics’ process to help ensure as smooth a flow and stress-free experience for patients as possible.
Another way was during the revamping of the Stradbroke Practice, where PPG members were on stand-by in case any help was required to direct patients during the building work.
The NHS is a huge organisation with complex procedural requirements and often involves changes that can affect the way in which General Practices operate. This can cause additional workload for the staff at your Practice, who consistently achieve high levels of patient approval. To help with such times “behind-the-scenes”, PPG members offer advice and suggestions to the Practice Manager on things such as newsletter content; or advance notice on actions that may affect the routine running of one or both practices for patients and for which their patient experiences can offer suggestions. Some members attend external meetings or courses run by organisations such as the Connect Organisation and Compassionate Companions.
Current members of the PPG
The current PPG patient members are Liz Stolls (Chair), John Alborough, Penny Alborough (Minutes taker), Rosie Hall, Tracey Holder, Kamal Ivory, Judy Lilley, Nick Stolls, Bryan Threadgall.
